Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine technique based on the concept that a human body is composed of 12 main channels in which qi flows freely. When illness occurs a person’s qi is blocked, injured, or exhausted so a practitioner inserts needles into acupoints on the corresponding channels which in turn restores health and wellbeing.
What are the benefits of Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is well known to reduce pain, decrease stress, increase energy, treat respiratory, digestive, cardiovascular, reproductive, skin, neurological, and emotional conditions to name a few.
What happens in an Acupuncture treatment?
Once the acupuncturist has inserted the needles into the acupoint you should feel a sense of “numbness, tingling, dullness, heaviness, or warmth” in the area. This is the desired effect and means that the practitioner has facilitated the person’s qi to move along the correct pathways to restore health. The needles are left in for approximately 20 minutes in which many people find the time relaxing and drift off to sleep.
Are there any risks or side effects of Acupuncture?
Risks and side effects of acupuncture are very minimal and rarely occur. Some of these minor effects may include slight bleeding, small bruising, or fainting. All qualified acupuncturists undergo rigid training in order to prevent any risks or side effects.
