How do I take Chinese Herbal Medicine?
Chinese Herbal Medicine comes in 5 main forms: Raw Herbs, Pills, Capsules, Granules, and External Liniments. Raw herbs are boiled into a tea, and the pills, capsules and granules you drink with warm water. External liniments are applied on the outside of the skin.
Is Chinese Herbal Medicine Safe?
In comparison to Western Drugs Chinese Herbal Medicine is extremely safe, effective, and with minimal or minor side effects. Chinese Herbs also treat the root cause of the illness and are tailored to the individual for more accurate effective results. Only a qualified Chinese Herbal Practitioner will have sufficient knowledge of herbal dosages, single herb interactions in a formula, herb-drug interactions, cautions and contraindications so it is important not to purchase pre-prepared products from unqualified practitioners or self-prescribe.
Can I take Western Drugs and Chinese Herbal Medicine at the same time?
Chinese Herbal Medicine compliments Western Drugs and therefore can usually be taken together. As Chinese Medicine has the benefit of reducing the side effects of Western drugs and adding to the desired therapeutic results. However, it is important to inform your Chinese Medical Practitioner and General Practitioner of all medicines that you are taking so they can notify you of any known Herb-Drug interaction that may create unwanted results.
